Wonderlic evaluates and ranks individuals in three areas scientifically proven to predict job performance:

As a result, employers can make more informed hiring decisions and improve their employee retention rate. 

The company’s most common evaluation for employment selection is the Wonderlic Personnel Test (WPT-R) or Cognitive Ability Test, popularly known as just the Wonderlic Test. It consists of a 50 multiple-choice assessment that measures a person’s capacity to process information and problem-solve under pressure. Questions increase in difficulty as the person advances through the test. 

Moreover, candidates are usually given 12 minutes to complete the test, and the score is calculated based on the number of answers that are responded correctly within that timeframe. A score of 20 is intended to indicate average intelligence, and a score of 10 or less categorizes the individual as ‘unfit.’

Over the years, companies have assigned a median score to different roles. As a result, depending on the position you are applying to, you might need to score more (or less). For instance, the median score for an accounting position is 28, while the median score for a nursing role is 23.

However, keep in mind that these are only references and cannot be taken as a definitive ‘passing score.’

Personnel Test – Quicktest (WPT-Q)

The WPT-Q test is a shorter version of the original evaluation. It consists of an 8-minute exam that includes 30 questions. The WPT-Q measures an applicant’s logic, math, and verbal reasoning skills. 

Companies generally request candidates to take this evaluation as part of the application process. As a result, the WPT-Q becomes a filter, allowing employers to interview only suitable candidates. 

Wonderlic Scholastic Level Exam (SLE)

The SLE evaluation has become increasingly popular with academic programs in the fields of nursing, dental hygiene, radiology, and sound technology. It consists of a 50 multiple-choice and has a 12-minute time limit. 

This exam is usually administered onsite and evaluates an individual’s logic, math, and verbal reasoning skills. Keep in mind that if you are required to take the SLE, your program will let you know beforehand their minimum or ‘passing score.’ 

Basic Skills Test (WBST)

This test measures a candidate’s math and English skills based on job requirements. Generally, each portion is allowed 20 minutes, resulting in a 40-minute evaluation. It can be administered onsite or remotely and consists of 50 verbal reasoning questions and 45 numerical reasoning questions.
