What is the Marriott assessment test?

The second stage of the hiring process consists of a series of assessments that vary in nature. It all depends on the position you are applying to and your experience level. Nonetheless, below is a list of the most common tests conducted by Marriott:

Aptitude/Personality Tests

The company uses two of AON Hewitt’s aptitude tests: Adept 15 and Shapes. Both evaluate a candidate’s capabilities and skills to predict how successful they can be in a specific post. They also assess personality and work behavior. Usually, there is no time limit for these types of examinations; thus, take your time and answer honestly.

Situational Judgement Tests (S.J.T.)

S.J.T.s are psychological tests that evaluate work-related behavior based on hypothetical situations. These are popular tools used by organizations to predict behavioral patterns and evaluate a candidate’s cognitive skills.

Moreover, the scenarios are more often than not reflective of a real-life aspect of the position. S.J.T.s are always multiple-choice, with five options, and you can only choose one.

Leadership Assessment

For managerial and director positions, you will almost always be asked to take a leadership assessment. As expected, this test will evaluate your interpersonal abilities and measure core competencies that are essential to be a successful leader.

Other Tests

As explained before, different positions may require different evaluations. Additional assessments may include accounting tests, English proficiency examinations, reading comprehension, etc.

Marriott Interview

If you pass all the examinations, the H.R. department will contact you to schedule an interview. Usually, the meeting consists of an in-person interview conducted by one or two recruiters. However, in some cases, the meeting may be administered via video conference (especially if you are applying for a position that requires relocation.)

Like many other companies, interviewers are looking for additional information on your previous work experience and getting a better feel of who you are as a person. Hence, this is the time when you need to shine and showcase all the core competencies required for the job.

The process takes between 6-8 weeks to complete, thus, do not get discouraged if weeks pass and you have not received an answer. Keep in mind that as a multinational conglomerate, Marriott receives thousands of applications daily.
